Nakaniko, it's hard to put this in numbers. If you want to sail in few knots, AND to have ability to plane and have fun when it's stronger, there is not much choice - you need a longboard.

Hi Floyd
I remember having similar discussions with you several years ago, I know your opinion about freeride and race gear very well. What is new however, is that I started to think along similar...

Severne S-1 alternative mast

A mate bought a second hand Severne S1 4.2. Obviously the best mast would be their recommended rdm blue line 370.
Any experiences what other mast would work well? (anybody tried it with rdm 400) It...

Richardd

If you want to use no bigger than a 6.0, and you sail in steady wind, then a K86 is equally good choice. It's more than "optimized" for 6.0 and your weight. But if you want to keep your...

Not *board team, but here is what I think (I've sailed several iSonics and have 3 mates who are around 95 kg - all freshwater iS sailors).
If you go for 2 slaloms, you can go smaller,...

3.7 to 6.3 - that's a really big sail range, simply there aren't any boards that will cover that comfortably. I'm 86kg, sail on a river, and use a kombat86 (kode predecessor). For our weight and this...

Unregistered

I've tried Kombat86 with a lot of sails (I'm 85kg), should be very similar to Kode. Going over 6.0 will gain nothing but clumsier handling. Maybe for light people it's a bit different...

Hi Steen
I don't think you are going to get a correct picture what's going on on a global scale, maybe a few local observations. Where I live most of new faces are kiters, but that's extremely small...

Hey Joe
This one from a fellow freshwater (river), 41 year old, 86 kg sailor so pretty close ;-)
For 4.5-5.2 wind and ugly lumps it will produce, a 100l board will be too big. I use a Kombat86...

Hi Floyd

I wouldn't say boards are/were designed around 75kg sailor as the target buyer, especially not iSonics. If anything, *board slalom pros are all heavy. That's a good question you're...

Hi Jojo

Where you sail you've got a 15kts average which is not bad, and on that fact alone I would recommend a board around 120 l or smaller. But not for you.
Since you are learning how to use...

This made me chuckle ;-)

Maybe your friends are a bit cautious because you ask about catapulting? Mind you, these can be ugly on that wide square nose.......

Thanks heaps Roger, very helpful as usual. My kid won't be ready for a long time, I was just curious, but I'll pass the info to some of my mates.

Best wishes

I second 2 boards solution: my 95 kg mate uses 94 + 122 for several years now (he is even racing occasionally), I've tried it and had no problem covering most conditions with no gap. So 86 + 111...

-I don't know what kind of insert SUPs use, can you link to some pics or explanation?
-In your test, you had an Aero with...

My 7-8 bf board in large swell/chop (freshwater) is predecessor Acid74, but I have about 30+ kilos more. For your weight, a 74 will be too big in more than 6bf. You need 68 if not smaller, don't know...

Hi Bel

I couldn't tell what's your experience level from your first post, so I was cautious about recommendations. Now, I think you should go for iS101, no doubt. Don't worry about occasional...

For Vict90 I believe a Futura is a better choice. Generally, if you're an intermediate freerider sailing 120-130l boards, and haven't tried any slaloms before, better to stay with what you know. At...

Hey guest #4

That's interesting. Kombats were sometimes accused of being "not exciting" enough, but they had smooth ride through chop and good control factor (I've sailed Kombats 2006-2007-2008...

Not Remi, but in my experience, for 25-30 knots open water and at 70 kilos, both these boards would be too big.

iS101 with a Gator 6.0 is somewhat better combo than iS111 with the same sail, that's for sure. For occasional use it's ok, but it's not the ideal combo, iSonics work much better with cambered sails.

Tmac

You made it confusing a bit - in your first post you want a board for 12-16 knots, and in post #3 you want to enjoy 3bf conditions. These are very different wind ranges.

Go for F133 and...

111 way too close to iS122 (as all the others have said) and it would be a mistake imho.
Forget about uphauling/slogging/wind shadows, there is no med-to-high wind board that will give you...
