I'm afraid that speed and ease of planning are often contradictory terms.
I find the Drake 58 rather soft which results in easy planning. The first goal of the Ultrasonic of course.

Haha, I had the same feeling a couple of years ago when they moved away from the "wood look" towards the "gray look".
Actually, I find the "blue look" not too bad. Many of my friends like it too. ...

Yes, I agee. The standard 58 Drake is not bad, but it can easily be pushed into a slip when pointing sharp. Even with my 8.8 sail.
With my 10.9 sail, I use a Deboichet R12 / 64. That goes very...

Once planing, I was a bit faster on a 85 wide slalom board.c/w the US147.
But then again, to win the race, I would choose the US147 because...

No, I don't think so.

The lightweights will keep the advantage in the super light conditions.
But a 90+ wide board will also keep the chances fair for a heavyweight. Perhaps he will not win...

Yes, Formula is very nice and has its own class so let's focus on Slalom.
If a Fomula board could be used in a Slalom race, is another discussion. Personally I think it could, but it would need a...

It needs to be light & fast in a straight and slight down wind course and also fast on the plane again after the jibe in minimal wind.
Control in light conditions is of less importance, especially...

Mark,

My personal experience, as a medium weight rider of 87kg, learns me that the US147 is a bit slower than the 85cm slalom boards on a typical PWA straight and slight down wind course, even in...

I've already asked Finian Maynard, last year.
He did not have to think twice.
For the heavy weights it's a no-brainer. If 7 knots is going to be the lower limit for PWA slalom the next couple of...

Yep, I had the same feeling with the 85 wide slalom boards I was on.

When I was fully powered up, I was going like a rocket. Super boards.
On slightly downwind courses, they are truly amazing.

I still want to replace my IS122...

It's probably going to be Bjorn's small board for this year's PWA.
He was still doubting between the IS87 and the IS90. I spoke with him on Boot Dusseldorf.
Let's hope there will be wind enough for...

Yes, I've never put a lot of effort in trying different fins on my IS122. I should have.

6.7 is also my preferred sail on the IS101(97). I sometimes use a 7.8 on it when the water state gets too...

Hi Mark, I think that for 78 kg, the IS87 is still a relatively big board. I mean, it can already be used starting from +/- 18 knots.
Probably THE best combo would be IS80/97/117, but because mikerb...

Me too.
And it's for sure no sin to close the gap. As long as you don't exaggerate. I mean, when you feel at a certain moment that your speed "stalls", it's good to open up the sail again, let it...
