i havent used the phantom but it is a planning board as well, however if you already have/use a starboard start a phantom would not be much use as it won't be a bridge to short boarding and more high speed free ride, its more a light wind cruising/relaxing board for recrational sailors, the bic 283 would be better if you want to improve and go towards the high wind free ride and really imprve your sailing. Also as its a new board this year so it will be expensive, i would say its not what your looking for. hope this helps.
