I think that both of the thinngs you mentioned will do good, but don't put on too much because from what i've seen its 0.4 mm not 4 mm of the plastic that you have to replace. If I would be doinng it I would put fiberglas and epoxi on... If you put on the right color i dont think that there will be any trouble vith the plastics.

I would have told you more if i knew the right words...
