Wide haness lines are becoming more popular for speed, definetly seems to help control in super over powered conditions and gusty winds.
I think Bjorn stayed with wide lines because 90's world cup slalom was on less stable sails. Bjorn also uses very long lines and a low boom, and you can see that he puts all his energy/strength into sailing fast.
