At Weymouth speedweek last year, we had a couple of light wind days. On oned day in particular it was marginal planing wind, even with the 9.5m on an 85cm wide slalom board - probably gusting 12 knotts. Even though the formula boards were planing the whole time and slalom boards spend most of their time waiting for the very few gusts that came through, when the results were analysed, all of the top speeds were 80 to 85cm wide slalom boards. So my conclusion is that a slalom board is faster, once planing, than a formula board. However, not sure how an Is147 would have done.... anyone want to lend me one for this years speed week?
