RE: Maui first timer
No shortage of info or discussions on the Maui scene.
Mostly Kanaha Beach Park on Kahului side is the centre of universe for intermediate action, pretty practical and fun as long as it's not epic swell. Parking, rigging etc is the best. Plenty of flat water on the South side down Kihei and Maalaea, side to offshore conditions, gets pretty windy out the back, so be wary. Parking, rigging OK but not great.
For Starboard rentals (pretty thin on the Maui ground right now) check out Kanaha Kai (closest store to Kanaha) - or a few in Hawaiian Island Surf. No question NP Maui is the prime rental location for NP products. They might even try and lure you with some of those other boards.
As for female instruction for your daughter, Maui Sports Unlimited. http://mauisportsunlimited.com/.
There are plenty of other options and choices, but for what you're looking for, the above will be a very good start.
