Hi Del and Steve.
I did actually sit down on the board and used both ends of my "mast" for poling it the kayak way. Speed came up noticeably (emphasized by the experience of being far closer to the water than standing up).
I think that for a flat water nature experience a double ended paddle will be far better (you don't have to switch side). You may actually find a good rhythm for really speeding the board. But for wave riding I guess it will be too clumsy...

Another fun factor was that people on the beach (it's cold in Denmark with snow patches on the coast) might have thought that they saw the incarnation of Christ walking on the water out there. Due to the low volume of the board it's hardly visible
