I like the looks of the hump in the deck of the new Rio's, and how it (apparently) allows comfortable use of the inboard back footstraps despite the wide tail.
I hope starboard will experiment with humps in the deck of other wide, early-planing boards, to make them more adaptable to different fin styles (i.e. shallow water, weed, etc), different rider abilities, and different sail sizes. I reckon that on wide boards it would be possible to have "normal" outboard footstrap positions as well as an inboard hump with straps. I posted something about my "fantasy" light wind planing board on my blog here... http://jimbodouglass.blogspot.com/20...board-for.html ...it would basically be a FE160 with a hump. |
