Futura 101 in woodcarbon, 2010.

Greetings from the winter cold Denmark.

I have for a time look at the Futura 101 in 2010 woodcarbon edition. This board, I thought would be my one-board solution and replace my current F2 eliminator vol: 103 and 62.5 width.

My question is whether it is realistic that it can carry my current sails : Hellcat 5.2, 6.2 and 7.2, which I use in winds between 17 to 31 knots. (The Eliminator have problems with 7.2) and does the width 65,5 on the Futura gets to big for windy days +26 knots ? Or should I look for a two board solution? Maybe isonic ..

I sail on flat water sometimes with a little or heavy chop, no waves and a GPS. And have reached 26 knots as my max speed, working slowly against the 30 knots

I am in the intermidiate area. Waterstart, harness use etc. is okay. But still working on those carve jibes and gaining speed. My current weight is 80 kg.

I do have a futura 101 (2008) wich is slightly different, but nevertheless it's a futura 101, yes it will handle 5.2-6.2 and 7.2 Hellcats. 6.2 and 7.2 will be great. I would go for the wood edition in smaller sizes by the way, a more soft feeling, more comfort.

But, +26 knots is pretty much wind, and two boards (or more) is of course always better in terms of Time on the Water. (that's why I own 5... and some old boards I cant say goodbye but wich I don't use anymore)

6 to 7 m sails work great on the 101. Indeed is the iSONIC 101 a relatively small board and can take a lot of wind, especially when it´s flat. If it´s super light and you would like to sail, too you can pimp the board with a 40 to 42 cm fin and use a 7,8 to 8,0, which is fine.

Would guess it´s a good choice.

But, Chris, do you not think, the isonic 101 will be too technical for my current level?
When I am developing and learning power jibes. But I can see that is86 and is101 will do the work for a period of time and years for me.

That is101 is so cool, so maybe..

Guess not, Claus. You replace a 103 l board with a board, which is by 1,5 cm wider, has a thin flat nose. If you combine the board with the 86 you could take the iSONIC 111 and you could cover a super wide windrange. The 111 can carry sails up to 8,5 easily and as the smallest size you could use the 6,2 when it´s flat.

The 86 is a machine, which works great from 5,0 to 6,7. So, think about, where you sail and in which windconditions most of the time.

As a one board solution the 101 would be good. YOu can have fun in 15 knots and in 25 as well.

Must say I hooked on the is101. I have searched in the free forum and was a little confused. Can you use no-cam sails on isonic 101 or only cam-sails ?

Hi Claus,
you are right, forgot about you do not have any Cam sails in your quiver. I sailed all combos: Futura 101 with no cam, Futura 101 with cam, iSonic 101 with cam, iSonic with no cam, all worked well

But guess you are right, I was too much in the iSONIC world: Futura 101 with no Cam is the better choice if I rethink it again!

that's true, for the hellcats i would go for the futura. The isonics need to be sailed powered up, futura does the job more easily with nocam freeride sails.
