Tech specs of Enigma mast : http://www.r3volution-mag.com/issue_01.php pages 66-67
Enigma vs RedLine: - Heavier (thicker wall SDM => better durability; 97% carbon content) - Red anti-UV dye & new anti-camber-wear/chafe finish - New fiber's layup and building - Pricier - same bend curve as the RedLine Cheers ! JM |

will enigma work well on ncx pro 6,5 and gator 5,5?
I cant see this mast as recommended or compatible for these sails My local shop doesn´t have red line sdm 430 and I cant decide wether I should choose blue line 430 sdm or enigma 430 for these two sails which is the best choice? |

Hi MOP,
Yes it will work perfectly but don't need this hi-price mast for this sails, the Blue Line will be enough and still very good. All the best

Sorry guys but I think you've got it wrongly sorted out. Watch out for vastly different mast requirement between these 2 sails...!!! : 1) NCX Pro 6.5 m2 sail requires a 430 SDM mast ! RedLine 430 cm SDM is the recommended mast; alternatively, the BlueLine 430cm SDM is compatible. Another alternative is either a RedLine 460 cm SDM or a BlueLine 460 cm SDM mast. http://www.severnesails.com/2011/pro...ail_ncxpro.php 2) Gator 5.5 m2 sail requires a 430 cm RDM mast ! RedLine 430 RDM is the recommend mast. Alternatively, a 460 cm RDM mast may fit from a manufacturer other than Severne. There are no BlueLine 430 or 460 cm RDM masts available. http://www.severnesails.com/2011/pro...sail_gator.php http://www.severnesails.com/2011/pro...t.php#red_line http://www.severnesails.com/2011/pro....php#blue_line The reason why each sail requires a different mast diameter is simple : NCX Pro 6.5 m2 is a freerace sail in which a SDM mast will provide more stability in the sail's draft and body while being under load. By contrast, the Gator 5.5 m2 requires a sturdier RDM mast, mainly to sustain the wave and freemove designed program and usage. Cheers ! Isn't the new Gators working with SDM ? The last few years they did !?
The specs says that 460 will work, and I understand that this means SDM (as it doesn't say RDM as the recommended). |

Nope:
http://2009.severnesails.com/2009/pr...sail_gator.php Gator size from 3.7 up to 6.0 required a RDM mast in 2009 and a SDM mast from size 6.5 up to 8.0 m2. This is still true for 2010 and 2011... ![]() Be carefull about RDM and SDM masts from Severne: they do not have identical bend curves ! Severne RDM mast are rather hard top whereas Severne SDM mast are more constant curve, even for the the same IMCS flex value (430 cm/IMCS 21 or 460 cm/IMCS 25). It is always the best practice to match a sail that is cut for a RDM mast with a RDM mast as intended by the sail designer in order to get the best trim & performance results. Cheers !
