Hi!
I have allreadywrite thread in 'ask our team' forum, and i didn't get any answer. Either my question was wrong or there was something else... So, i own futura 133 2009 with standard fin Drake R13 Race SL 480. I have three diferent sails, 8,5m2, 7 m2 and 6m2. I would like to buy smaller fin, but i'm not sure wich will work best with smaller sails. If anyone could help me i would e very grateful. thx Ales |

hello:
i will attempt an answer , butt am NO fin expert for me the 47 or 48 cm fins work best for about 8.5 i use a 53 cm fin for a 10-oh, and 40 cm for my 7-oh the fin for my 8.5 is a weed fin - so , that may be a question to ask yourself my 40 cm fin is swept and i use it for my 6-oh as well (could use about 36 or 38 cm here) i only have one weedfin, butt my w/s buddy says he is buying ONLY weedfins now we seem to need em $%^&*() all my fins are Select and i like em other people here seem to be True Ames or MFC fans also noticed lighter weight sailors using much smaller wave type fins with my 100 kilos i like bigger fins and bigger sails hope someone else chimes in !!!

Hi Ales,
The 48 cm (Drake R13 SL 480mm) fin that came with your board is probably optimum with a 7.5 m2 rig and should work quite well with your 7.0 m2 as well. For your 8.5 m2 rig I agree with Joe above..... 52-54 cm is probably the optimum. For your smaller 6.0 m2 sail, 42-44 would be about the best. Due to the tail width of your 133 Futura, you cannot go too small or you lose alot of performance. What fins to buy? Any of the major fin manufacturers have slalom fins, swept pointer fins in this size range, so find one from Select, Lessacher, Deboichet Concept, True Ames, etc at your local surf shop in the correct size. You can even buy new and used fins online (EBay etc.) Check with those who sail at where you sail and find out what is working for them, then find a 42 cm (and probably a 52 cm as well) so you can cover your entire sail range. Hope this helps, Roger Last edited by Roger; 10th October 2010 at 03:23 AM. |

Hi Roger!
i read in 2009 archive: Futura 133 Sail range 6.0-9.5 Fin Range 40-50 Standard fin R13 Race SL 480 and here: http://www.star-board.com/2010/news_...?threadid=8010 i read: "I will recommend this to get the best results as possible: Futura 133 with NCX 8 & 8,5 with the production n fin" So i am wondered for your 8.5- 52cm recommendation. I also need your advice about FU 133 fins; i have two questions: (i am 82Kg 182 cm) 1) Which fin size for 9.5? 2) Which sail for my 39 cm slalom fin? Tank you Eugenio |

Hi Eugenio,
I do not know what to say about the different fin recommendations...... Remi Vila is a big guy, he sails 8.0-8.5 NCX in very different windspeeds than I sail my 8.5 Sailworks Retro or 7.8 NX Slalom. 4 cm is indeed a difference, but I think if you were trying to get going in slightly underpowered conditions, many sailors would up the fin size to 52 cm in a heartbeat. If they are fully powered to overpowered, they might want the 48 cm. If they were grossly overpowered on a 7.0-7.5 m2 rig they would most likely want a 42 cm. For your 9.5m2 rig a 52-56 cm would probably be the best...again, it depends on the sail, rigging, the wind (over/under powered) and the sea conditions. Your 39 cm slalom fin will most likely work on a 5.5-6.5 m2 sail range, which is getting on the small size for the Fu 133. Hope this helps, |

Hi Roger,
thanks so much for the advice. Very helpful ! Now i am looking for the right fin choice. For example (into the Select website) Select S10 - thrue slalom fin - size 35 to 57 cm http://www.select-hydrofoils.com/en/fins/elite/s10/ or SRX freerace - size 42 to 52 cm http://www.select-hydrofoils.com/en/.../srx-freerace/ the second one is more forgiving and less expensive. What do you think about? Tank you Eugenio |

Hi!
I decide to order select SRX freerace 42 for my smaller sail (6.0 m2). or other two i will use R13 Race SL 480 that came with my board. I used it with 7.0 and 8.5 m2 sail and for ma knowledge and skill work quite well. When i improve my skill to the next level, then i get my self bigger fin. thx |
