iSonic 117 or smaller?

Hi forum,
I want to replace my 2007 iSonic 122 with a new iSonic model. I am 62 kg, 175cm and pretty experienced with more than 20 years of windsurfing. I mostly sail on lakes in the south of Germany with light wind conditions between 7-15 knots. My sails are 8.5 and 6.9.
What size of iSonic would be ideal for these conditions? My 122 is 75cms wide, the new 117 would match that perfectly. Should I just choose the same width or should I also think about the 117wide or the smaller 107?

i would advise you the 107 , at your weight you will be able to use this board with both your sails , in light and hard wind conditions just fine.

With only 62 kgs and the sails being used the 8.5 and 6.9 I'd definitely go for the 107 too.

I too mainly sail lakes with my iSonics but weight quite a bit more than you at 86kg. However, the 107 for me works superbly with a 9.0 down to a 6.4 though only when it is gusty and full of holes will I use the 107 with th 6.4. When it is good solid 6.4 weather I switch down to an iS87.

it´s a tough question. On the one hand the 107 will cover an extremely wide wind- and sailrange. Would recommend to choose the Carbon Version. On the other hand you need a board, which allows you to plan in lightest conditions at your homespots. SO I would suggest to go for the 117. This board has an excellent upwind performance. You can use a 42 or 44 cm fin combined with your 8,5 and you will have a lot of fun in 10 knots. The 6,9 works fine, just needs a shorter fin around 40 to 42. You have the option to put a bigger sail on the 117 and sail the board with a 46 cm fin.

Out of interest, what do you weigh? At 86kg I find the 107 great on the lake but sure, I need 12kt gusts to push me onto the plane. But as Stefan is only 62kg (gawd, I wish I was still that light) then in your opinion how much difference would there be between the 2 sizes on an 8.5 with regards to minimum planing speed?

and thanks for your posting, Chris. I was a bit surprised that everybody thought that the 107 would be okay for me. I don't want a medium to high wind board (I use a freemove or a waveboard then), but a light wind board that gets me planing really early. I don't like a formula, but my '07 iSonic 122 gets me planing really early, so I'm the King of Early-planers on the lake (I use it with the 8,5 sail and a 44cm Drake SlalomPro then).
What I'm looking for is a replacement for the 122. Five years development should make a difference in different aspects.

Considering thatyou are sailing on a lake with 7-15knots i would get the 117wide carbon, it will be so much nicer in the lulls .
I´m 88kg and use a 127 carbon with 9.3 and 7.6 vapors. it´s still really fast in 20knots of wind with a 7.6 and fully controllable. you can easily use the 117wide with the 6.9 up to and above 20knots. and then you can switch to smaller gear.
A 107 in 7knot lulls will not be fun, your gybes will suffer and you will have to pump a lot!

have similar kilos I havee test two boards [107 and 117 w] [sails 8,6 7,8 and 7 reflexII ] My opinion is 117w will be surprised
