Hi team,
I am interested in the Carve 131 2012. Board will be used with Severne NCX 6.0, 7.0 and Reflex 7.8. Purpose is both recreational sailing and some blasting half and down wind. I see on the site you can choose between 3 constructions: carbon, wood and AST. Weight difference between wood and AST is only 300 gram with the advantage of the tufskin for kids playing with the board and less experienced people using the board. However how significant is the difference in performance between wood and AST? I guess the wood version is stiffer and may have some better performance, but is this difference noticable also in good 4 and 5 Bft conditions while using the 7.8 Reflex? Thanks in advance, Hans |

You correct the Wood version is stiffer and will make difference particularly with your Reflex sail. The top will be of course the Carbon version with this sail but not the best for kids due to less impact resistance than Wood or Ast who is the best in this case. Hope this help All the best

Hi Remi,
Thanks for this answer. Wood will be better in this case. Carbon looks nice, but is very expensive. What bothers me more is the gain in weight from 7.8 kg last years wood to 9 kg this year. I know this has to do with an other way of building the board, but doesn't it pay a significant price in planining capacity and feeling under foot? Besides this the local shop offered a futura 133 '11 carbon for a very good price. I know these boards, because I have the 93 and 111. But how well is the futura 133 for recreational use for a 65 kg person which already surfs in footstraps and trapeze. In other words how much is the difference between the futura 133 and carve 131? May the 133 be an alternative? |
