So back to my original question.

If I go for the iSonic 110 to be used with a 7.8 wouldn't my iSonic 2013 97 (which has 63.5 width) be better suited for me than the iSonic 2014 97 (with 65 width) when I use it with my NP RACING 6.4 and 7.0? Remember I weigh 70kg.

Hi All

I can see here a pationate topic
The stuff I try to explain for active early planning, that Widft is much more important than volume, the reason why the Formula is the best in active planing
For the narrow tail is for to compensate the max Widft of the board other wise the board will be very slow and the important planing surface is right under the front foot straps
Hope this help to understand the concept
All the best

So Remi,

Comparing the 97 iSonic 2014 with the 97 iSonic 2013 based on what you have said above the 2014 would of course plane quicker as wider max width but the 2013 model must have some advantage over the 2014 as it has a wider TAIL width. Wouldn't it go through lulls better and come off the plane slower than the 2014 model due to the wider tail?

Hi Van

The answer is no, the 2013 will not go through lulls better and come off the plan slower than the 2014.

Like Remi said, the "slightly" narrower tail width is countered by the "slightly" increased max width (near front foot strap area). It is this forward part of the board that gets us planning and keeps us planning through lulls (amongst other things).

Slightly wider upfront and slightly narrower tail should make for a much more comfortable/controllable down wind stance too.

Just my 2 cents worth

Hi Van

No acceleration and top end speed will be higher on the 2014 iSonic 97 vs 2013.
The wet surface is a lot less in the tail and this help a lot to accelerate and top end speed. It will be more easy to go in lulls.
Hope you can try one to understand the all concept.
All the best
