Default Fin for Is133, Is110 and Is101

What fin do you recommend for slalom racing with an 8.6 and 9.6 on an Is133

I currently have the 52cm Drake, supplied with the board and a Select S12 47cm
I am thinking about a Select Vmax 49cm or would I be better with a Select S1 49 or 51cm

In general I prefer the Select S12's to the Drakes supplied with Isonics - anyone got any views about the 52cm Drake

I am about to buy an Is110, I already have a Deboichet SL4 40cm and Select S12 43cm. I hear that he Isonics go better with a powerful fin like the Select rather than the SL4

For my Is101 I have the SL4 40cm (to use with 7.8) and Select S12 37cm, is it worth getting a 35cm VMAX or S1

I weigh 85 Kgs

Anyone know how to register for this forum?

Default Fin for is 133

I can only comment on the 133........just bought the 110 but no chance to try it yet!

I found the 52 Drake OK in flat water and with a 8.5. It pins the board very flat in the water so if conditions get a bit rough it can be a little hairy! I also found it overpowers the board fairly quickly if the wind picks up and it gets increasingly difficult to do anything other than hammer upwind! I mostly used a 49 Select s12 which provided plenty enough power for 8/8.5 and would continue being controllable in rougher water and if the wind picked up. I never used anything over 8.5 and I am a 78 kg so a 50cm Select may be better for 9/9.5. It seemed to me that using the hull shape of the 133 ( 2 planning flats) was more effective in terms of early planning than pushing off the fin and a smaller fin helps to improve gybing the beast. I also sailed the 133 occasionally with a 7m on a 46cm Choco fireblade.
I have a 41cm Select S1 for my 110 which I expect to be its main fin but with Select 39 and 41 s11/s12s as options.

Hi Mattsurf,
would go for a good 42 with the 110. You can go in pretty light conditions with that board with 8,6. Starboard recommends excellent fins for their iSonics.
The fins for the 101 are fine.

For the 133 a 49 makes sense. But you will use the board with the 9,6 most of the time and then switch to 110 with 8,6.

Hope it helps,

Chris

+1 on what Chris said with the 42 for the 110. It's perfect.

If you are doing figure-8 style slalom racing with a bit of upwind you can also run a 44cm for a bit more power.

Had the 133 out at the weekend with 9.6m wind 12 to 22kts

First outing with board and sail

First impression is that the 52 cm fin is way too big at any sort of speed. 47cm was generally good but not couldn't point too high, I recon that a 49 would be perfect with. 9.6 powered upo

Is110 will arrive this week, first outing will be a slalom race!
