Default Replace rocket 115 with Futura111?

Hello,

I Have a futura 141 that i like very much. I sailit with Point 7 ac-k 9.4 and 7.8 sail.
I am thinking to replace my Tabou rocket 115 with a Futura 111.
Do You think that at my weight of 95 kg the Futura 111 would work with the 7,8 point 7 ac-k sail and wich fin would you recommand.
I would also use the futura with a 6.7 and maybe 5.7 sail, but I would like some overlap for the 7.8 sail. If there is not much chop i can sail it with the futura 141 from 14 to 20 knots. With more chop i maybe could just switch to the smaller futura with the 7.8 sail.

I also have a mistral syncro 94 for more wind and smaller sails (5.7, 5.0, 4.2).

best regards

Alex

Hi,
I am same weight as you. I recently tested a Futura 111 with 7.0. The board is very very good, so easy going in the chop, fast and a dream to jibe.
It will go nicely with your 7.8 (I'll guess you will have to waterstart it), 6.7 will be super, 5.7 will also work, just have a few fins to choose from.
I used the Starboard delivered fin with the 7.0 and it work very good.
Go for the carbon version. I tried the wood, and I missed the responsiveness in a carbon board.

Hello,

did You try he Futura 111 with a 7,8 sail or do You just think that it will work?

I really would go for the 111 if it works well with the 7,8. But i am not sure if it will be a good setup with my 95 kg. The rocket 115 is not much fun with the 7,8, so I rarely us it.
Otherwise the Futura 122 might be an Option (but maybe too close to the 141).

Best regards

Alex

Hi again,
No I did not try it with 7.8, only 7.0 NCX.
I have an Isonic 97 which works very good with 7.5 NCX.
The NCX is a lighter sail than the 7.8 race sail, but on the other hand the Futura 111 is 4cm wider and has 14 liters more volume so the 111+7.8 should be a good match.
However, i suspect you need to show some brilliant balancing skills if you plan to pull the 7.8 in choppy conditions.

The rocket is a fantastic board. I like it very much with 6.7 and 5.7 sails. Fast, easy to jibe. But for me it dosnt work with the 7.8. The rocket sits deeper in the water then the futura. Alltough the ride through chop is comfortable on the rocket, i like the way the Futura 141 goes over the chop, with the nose riding higher. Maybe the Futura 111 is also a little bit Faster then the rocket 56 km/h top speed so far).
With the 111 futura I hope to gain a little bit in lighter wind (with the 7.8) and maybe I will lose a little bit at the top end with the 5.7 but for that I will use my Mistral Syncro 94.

Best regards

Alex,

I have a Futura 141 and the 121 and I am also 95 kg! The Futura 121 for me works very good with freerace sails from 7.0 - 8.6 and I love sailing it with a 7.8! I can use the 8.6 even without waterstarting (just!). The stock fin is ok but it doesn't fit my way of surfing I prever the old race fin's once delivered with my old Isonic's.

Regards,

Albert

Off topic:I surf the Futura 141 with sails in the range from 7.8 - 10.0 and if the local weatherstation reports correct windspeeds I can get it working from 10-12 knots when I use a 52cm lightwind slalom fin.

I use the Futura 141 with select S 1 fins (51 cm for the 9.4 and 47 for the 7.8) i also have a select s 10 with 43 cm that i only use when really overpowered with the 7.8.
But then i could already use the rocket 115 with a 6.7 sail with more fun.

The futura 121 is a great board for sure but I think with the 6.7 sail the 111 would be better.

Best regards

Alex

Alex,

For me the 7.8 is the "sweepspot" sail for the F 121 so your 6.7 should work great on a F111. I bought the F121 and not the F111 because I wanted the extra volume to be able to use a 8.6 sail. In your case the 7.8 should also work fine on the 7.8 F111.

Regards,

Albert

Alex I have the 2012 F111 and mainly use with 7.8 and 6.8 Loft Switchblades. I weigh 70 kgs and these are the best sail sizes for me. 6.3 is also OK but for smaller then that I prefer to use smaller boards. I have to say that this is a fantastic board and I regularly sail in open choppy bay conditions.
