Dippa, depending on the water state, on 20/25 knots in open ocean, I with 72 kilos go with my wave board and 5.7 , could be that you with 80 kilos could go nice with a smaller fin, the mast one inch forward than usual and watch your foot straps position, if you were using them too backwards, make them one notch forward and rise a little your boom.

Why it's flying? Because it's fast!
now more serious: 20/25 knots is quite a lot of wind for a freeracedesign as a lightning. In able to get a more stable platform follow the tuning tips given in this topic first. If they won't help you, pick a more downforce racing sail. I used to own a futura 101 (2008) and it was really great in 20-25 knots with an NP RS4/S 6.2 sail ! |

I have had simular problems with my Futura 93 together with Reflex 6.2 and 31 cm select speedfin. The board was flying, feeling very fast out of control, but in reality wasn't realy fast. Waterstate was flat (easy) and wind 6 Bft and gust 30-35 Kts. While the fin wasn't the problem in this case I focused on boom height and mast position. At the end with a remarkably low boom position (125-130 cm) and mast position ahead of the middle of the track the board became very balanced (lasted one hour to trim). feeling in control, still flying, but giving a lot of confidence and being very fast. In my case boot mast foot and boom height were very important to get a confident feeling and fin already was ok, not being limiting control of the set. Only a few cm's can make the difference between fun and disaster! Give it a try choosing different trim options, but at first take a fin which generates less lift (likely smaller) Hans |

Hi Dippa,
You might test the 2011 fin who is deliver with it, the fin calm down the board and make it very fast and comfortable. Slalom fin give more lift and are more complicate to use. This fin also give you a very easy jibe and smooth. Look like your problem come mainly from the trim of your sail or shape, I don't know this one. All the best

Thanks for all your suggestions.
I have purchased a Select freeride fin, so hopefully this will help. I have also gotten rid of the Tushy Lightning, which I didnt really like. |
