Hello,
I have just purchased an old but very good condition 2006 Sonic 85. The fin supplied by the previos owner is a Drake SR6b 28cm. Great board but the fin feels a bit small and slow to get going. Using a Gaastra 6.5m GTX (3 cam) and a Gaastra Vapor 5.5 (4 cam). Any recomendations for a fin? Mainly slalom use but just starting to toy with speed sailing. Thanks. Nick. |

Like the sonic 85 (2006 model), it's great and can be very fast.
For RSR 5.4 I use a tectonics falon 28 of 30 For 6.2 I use a tectonics falcon 30/32. |

I actually think the '06 Sonic 85 is one of the best slalom boards ever made. I still have mine... never getting rid of it.
Kvda is right, 30/32 Tectonics Falcon is a perfect fin for this board with 5.0 - 7.1m sails. I use the 30cm mostly. Also I found the 32 SL2 had a little more grip than the SL4; so if you're sailing in gnarly conditions and want to really grip in the gybes, the SL2 might be a better choice. The Debs are a touch quicker than the Tectonics when it's super windy I find; as they just have a touch more control. Enjoy the board ;-)

Thanks for the replies and help in finding the right fin for my Sonic 85. I am going to investigate getting a 30 and a 32 cm fin. Not 100 % sure which make yet, I expect it will all come down to price and am going to look in to the secondhand market first.
But....the board is awesome, very happy. Thanks for the help much appreciated. Regards, Nick. |
