Default IS or Futura 122/133

Hi,
I have one IS 88 and one IS 100 that I use with GTX Race 6.0, 7.0, 8.0. Very happy with the boards! However, I used to have a Carve ca 120 l for more light wind sailing with 8.0 but decided to sell it as in comparison with the IS it was a little bit boring and not the same race horse. Now I'm looking for a new light wind board that I will, more all less, only use with the GTX 8.0. My weight is about 80 kg and I'm so far looking at 2010 IS 122 or 131 or 2010 Futura 122 or 133. Any suggestions? Proper fin size?

Best regards,

Fredrik

Why would you choose a Futura, if you already tasted a full blood race horse like the Isonic ?
Especially in the larger sizes, with less wind and thus less chop.

I was thinking that early planning might be more important than top speed during light wind summer breezes, but you might be right that the full blood is the most logical choice. Please note that the board is not for competition even though I enjoy the speed of the IS series. I would appreciate some more comments about the IS vs Futura and also re the 122 vs 131 with a 8.0 sail. Thanks!

Not SB team, but the answer looks pretty easy here I agree with Bel, even though the 2011 Futura is getting real close to the iSonics in speed, if you like your other two iSonics, stick with them.

If 8m GTX is your biggest sail, and you are about 80kg, the iS117 or iS121 is the best choice. An 8m will work on the iS127/131 but is not ideal as its a bit small. Only leaving you with the iS117/121 for your 8m and 7m. Fin wise, range from 40cm to 45cm (depending on brand/model) for the iS121.

If you plan to get a bigger sail (9x) then the iS131/127 would be even better. Fins 47cm to 52cm.

Also, you say you have iS88 and iS100. Do you mean iS86/87 and iS101?

Full blood might be the most logical choice, but for what? It's logical that iSonics will have the edge on the slalom course most of the time with very experienced riders. But do we surf in groups so often and do we have the skills to surf faster with iS than Fu? Maybe Bjorn does, but for fun he might also take a Futura. Slalom is not about topspeed, but about highest average speed. For funsurfing vs GPS-speed it's likely a futura while overtake vs challenge the iSonic.

Fredrik,

On point that may help with your decision -

I have an iS 111 and find that with a 7.6 race sail, I can pop up on plane as fast or faster than several of my buddies on 7.5 sails and 130 liter boards. I am much faster once powered. The point is that the iS boards with their wider tails (and with a larger fin - 42cm) perform as well or better than the larger volume boards most freeriders use in 10-20 knot winds.

I am talking about freesailing, not racing. I weight 77kg.

You should consider the iS 122.

I've owned a IS111 and FU133, both 09 models. the IS111 planed earlier (wider tail) and was faster on any point of sail. FU133 felt like a pig in comparison. The late model Futuras may be different, but I think that the Futuras as they get bigger they cater more for the intermeddiate sailor.

I'd be definitely be reccommending the IS 122 given you have the smaller IS.
