Hi,
I would like to hear your comments if SB formula 159 will work with a 9,5 North sails S-type? Will there be a big difference compared to a freerace sail (overdrive, ram, gtx...), which is somewhat hard to find used... Thanks! |

If your just looking to free sail in super light winds and not racing, then this combo will work fine. The F159 was 2nd gen formula, shorter than 1st gen but not super wide tail like current 3rd gen, this made it easy. The S-type 9.5m is power house and will give as much pull (in light winds) as a dedicated formula 11m. But it will over-power sooner, wont point as high/low and might not be as fast when real powered up. But this wont matter if its just for light wind fun. C/W the NS Ram, the S-type can hold its own, slightly slower in over-powered conditions, but the S-type has better low-end. Also, Stype has good tunning range

Thanks Mark for replying. I intend to use the sail purely for recreational sailing so I don't have any problems with the mentioned negative aspects of the sail (overpowering, speed) except the upwind/downwind angles but I guess as a recreational sailor I doubt I will even notice the difference.
