I recently had the pleasure of doing a little interview with Monty Spindler of The Loft Sails.

Interesting article. I just bought a Loft sail. Monty engaged me in an exchange of messages last year regarding the 8.4 I owned. This had a lot to do with my choice of a second one.

Although this is a rather fascinating subject, I don't think Loft sails are the best. Neither do I think that their dealers are that trustworthy. Monty may be a stand-up guy, but . . .

I had a couple Loft O2's (9.6 and 8.4). Two of my favorite sails ever. Got them both used and they proved durable as well. It is not that easy to get them now in the U.S. unfortunately.

Actually, The House is selling the 9.6 now at a $100 discount. I'm also glad that someone who knew Mr. Hendrix personally reads this forum. I saw him in concert in a tent. I bet you didn't get that close.

No, though I once had a great conversation with Billy Cox (his bass player) and I used to get Christmas cards from Mitch Mitchell (drummer). I think you got the better deal seeing him live, though. FWIW I usually run into a few Loft sailors in Hatteras whenever I'm down there. I always ask about the sails, and I've never heard anyone complain. |
