Default new wave boards

Hi,

I have a EVo 74 05, and although i´m very happy with it I think that´s the moment to change...

my weight is 70 kgs, and i´m thinking to buy two wave boards. The sails range is 3,7-5.2 (in the future maybe till 6.0), and i used to sail in mediterranean conditions (gusty and side-on winds) but with my old board i´ve sailed in a big variety of conditions: fuerteventura, morocco, portugal, etc...

really i´m very satisfied with de EVO model (although i have never tested a Acid), and my first option would be EVO70 + EVO80 (most used sails 4,7 and 5,2), but i don´t know if a Pure Acid like smallest board will be a best election or if the gap between EVO 70 an d EvO 80 is too reduced...

i´m a bit lost now, then i will be eternally thankful for some help...

cheers

Hi,

I am not much in wave sailing but when I go wave sailing I use Evo as my wave boards as I am more used to the style of the Board.

I weight 73kg at the moment. so that's almost the same as you.

The Evo 70 will be great when you use sail sizes from 3.7 to 4.7

The Evo 80 you can pretty much use it in those light gusty days with yout 4.7 - 5.2

if I had to choose I will choose exactly what you have have in mind..

If you are still in doubt you can then wait for scott or Ola option as their are much in wave sailing.. But I will go for what I have told you

I used to have a 05 Evo 74, and traded it in for a 07 80. It is an incredible board, that fits my weight 85kgs perfectly. In my opinion it is better thru the chop and responds quicker to foot pressure than the 05 74. Maybe because it has more float for me. If I was to get a two board combo for me, itwould be the Evo 80 but would definelty select an Acid for the wild 4.2 days.

Hi lujoberner

I'm your weight and also sail quite a lot in the sort of conditions you describe. First I would say that if you like the feel of the EVO 74, I think its best to stay with an EVO setup instead of a mixed Acid/EVO quiver. Personally, I'm perfectly comfortable with an EVO 70 all the way down to powered up 3.5 sailing and if you're used to riding the 74, I think you will on one hand allready be used to the EVO feel and able to take full advantage of the big range and on the other hand be surprised with how much easier the 70 is in lots of wind and in faster waves than the 74.

The 80 is in a way a bigger version of the 70 and I think its a perfect light wind complement. It's quite a lot of board for a 70 kg guy, but at the same time extremely effective in slower waves and lighter winds. So, the 70+80 is pretty much the perfect quiver. They are definitely not to close.

Personally, I think the sweet spot for the 70 at my weight (67 kg today after a hard hike on skis in the alps) is 4.0-5.0 and its really good also with a 3.5 or a 5.3. My sweet spot on the 80 is 5.3-5.9 and its good also with a 5.0 and a 6.3. Even if you don't use bigger than 5.2, the 80 will still be a nice addition to a EVO 70 when its marginal winds and onshore or if you want to ride slow waves or just need the float. So, I don't think you can go wrong with the 70+80.

Cheers,
