Default Futura or Isonic?

Hello,

I'm a 25 years old and I've been windsurfing since I'm little but these last few years I've stopped a little bit because of University. But after windsurfing 2 weeks in Safaga I really want to get back into it!

I currently own a 2000 AHD freediamond 70 and was thinking of maybe upgrading it.

I'm weighting 75kg, I've got a good average level (planning/jibing) and I'm going to be mostly sailing in 8-16 knots on a lake.

I was thinking about the Isonic 110 with sails 7.8-8.5 but I was wondering if the board is not too technical as it's a top racing board? If it is too technical I probably would go with a futura.

So I would like to know if I would enjoy the isonic without being a amazing windsurfer?

Thanks in advance,

Sébastien

how big is the lake?
winds consistent ie in direction and speed - not too many wind shadows??
reason i ask - for me longboards work best on the smaller lakes
bigger lakes mean shortboards
Futura is now freerace from what i understand and feel you cannot go wrong with that
for your weight 8-16 knots is about 6.5 to 12.5 {HUGE RANGE}
7.8-8.5 meter sail size is about 12 knots wind
would guess a Futura 121 would do you well - depending on lake size, skills, etc
however, will let the experts give you more precise advise

Thanks for your time,

The lake is around 1km wide and well exposed. As it's not too windy in Belgium I would most of the time use 7.8 and bigger. I've no doubt the futura is a good board but I might as well buy an isonic if they are not too difficult to use.

Hi Seb

99% of iSonic owners are NOT amazing riders (me included). 1% of iSonic riders are amazing riders. But this does not mean that you can not have fast fun on the same equipment as that 1%. Its an amazing feeling riding the same kit as the PWA stars.

You are an experienced windsurfer and you will have no problem riding iSonics in light/medium winds on Belgium lakes, they are not mega difficult like the old slalom kit

For a 75kg rider, I reckon the iS110/7.8/8.5 will be pretty much perfect, especially with two good modern fins.

Go for it

Thanks for your advice!

I'll probably go for it then as it seems that it is a really good board!

If anyone have used both models I would be interested in hearing your thoughts.

Cheers

I have both the Isonic & Futura. Last year I sold my 2000 AHD Freediamond 65.
Isonic is great for BAF blasting & jibing but tacking is more difficult because there is
Much less volume in the nose. Futura is easier to jibe and closer to your Freediamond.
Futura is not as smooth as your AHD but much faster.

Go for the Isonic, you will not regret it !!!
As Mark H said, you are an experienced windsurfer and will have no problem to handle these boards.
They are superfast and easy to sail.

I started on a 170 liter Starboard Go. After 3 seasons I jumped to a 145 liter Isonic (1/2 season), then 122 (1,5 season) and now 127.

For flat water and gusty wind conditions 110L are too little.
