Default Sinbad AKA LeeD and many others

I picked up on this on the boards.co.uk forum. Any regular SB forum mites from the last ten years will remember Sinbad, LeeD etc. All the same guy with many different user names.

Well, although he was a pain, he was an interesting guy I guess. I'm sorry to say that he passed away a few months ago.

Mark,
Almost correct! Bruce Swift AKA Brucie/Sinbad/Sailswift. and about 50-60+ other aliases is not
nor never was Lee D.
LeeD, was/is from San Francisco, was /is probably still around, and he was an anathema
here on the Starboard forums when Tor Bakke and I first got this forum started.
In fact, I think Lee D was the only person that was ever banned in the early years. We had no registration, SPAM was not so much a problem, and we had great discussions and lots of activity.
I actually met Lee D once in Alameda, CA while traveling with "A Taste of Windsurfing". A very opinionated
guy, yes, but also knowledgeable and basically a nice guy and very helpful to those just starting out in the sport.

Brucie; Sinbad and like 56 other names, AKA Robert Swift, RIP
Roger

Hi Roger

My mistake on the LeeD connection, thank's for pointing it out

I won't ask what you really think Roger, but I can pretty much guess I don't remember the hospital incident. I think I started using the SB forum around 2002, so may have been before then. But yes, it does show the evil flip side to trolls. I could never understand the point of him or why he acted in that manner?? From memory, there was a time when every thread was contaminated by him!!

I guess we had the last laugh though. were still here

Hi Mark,
The hospital incident was ~August 17th 2007.....that's when I got the new heart valve.
Yep, he was a trip....to me a bad trip.
To some others whose skin he never go under, probably not so much.
Yep....he's gone....we're not......Nice!

The varied nature of the several sports we collectively call windsurfing and the complexity of each of those "windsurfing" sports puts forum posters in a situation that almost guarantees some of their words will be misunderstood. And it will be easy for the first poster to not recognize when the second poster did not understand.

I often thought many of LeeD's verbal fights partially came from his tendency to assume both he and the other poster were talking about the same area of windsurfing when, in fact, they were not.

Another part of the nature of windsurfing builds disagreement on forums. The more I learn about windsurfing the more it appears to be a precise sport. Making a small adjustment can quickly move a sailor from fine cruising to planing. When we can make the necessary adjustment in our own sailing to move to planing that precision can easily make each of us think we know the answer. But being able to exactly describe that answer and make it understandable to forum readers is more difficult than learning how to do a carving jibe.

FWIW:

LeeD still contributes to the iWindsurf, General Discussion forum. He appears to have toned down his messages.
