First time sailing the 97 from 2014 today . Its quite different from the 2011. Remember, this is my (87kg) opinion from where i sail and i use weed fins. Compared to the 2011 the 2014 feels looser under your feet, and actually smaller, because it has a smaller tail, feels like the volume is a little bit less.
And it starts to plane earlier because its wider. it has more of a slippery feel. It does not need a powerful fin as much as the 2011. It was really light in the beginning so i tried it with a 8.6 first, and that went amazingly well! Later in the day i sailed a 7.9. It can gybe tighter than the old 97, but feels less stable and less directional. Itīs more technical to sail upwind than the old 97 because you have less tail to push against. I will have to try it with other fins and sails to get more info, but overall it feels great. I sailed it in choppy and flat water today with a hurricane 30cm weed fin.

8.6? wow that seems a bit big for that board?

Kapten, can you explore its upper wind limit i.e smallest comfortable sail.

Was out today again. overpowered on 7.1 around 22knots wind with 30knot gusts and very choppy sometimes.. i had too stiff mast so i got tired quickly. and changed for a smaller board, I did not go faster on the smaller board (manta 54). I think the 97 is excellent as a slalom board down to 6.0 if you are 85kg like me. But overpowered on a 7.0-6.0 you could be on a smaller board, and you would gain speed and control, but loose accel after gybes.

For me the new 97 is a 8.6-7.1 speed/blaster board and a 7.9-6.0 slalomboard.

Same thing happen to me. I ordered an Is90 eight months ago and was told a month ago that there weren't any available. I then changed the order to an Is97 and it is supposed to be delivered in the next week or so. We'll see. If not I'll move over to RRD.

As I said earlier I ordered the Is90 eight months ago and was told one month ago there weren't any so I ordered an Is97. I ended up receiving the Is90 much to my surprise. We haven't had much wind yet this year so I'm hoping things will change and I'll get a chance to sail it soon.
