Bigger fin for the Is 133?

I am finding the Isonic 133 difficult to unstick in light wind conditions, and was wondering if there was any mileage in going for a bigger fin than the stock 48cm provided?

In light winds I sail a 9.8m Neil Pryde v8 on it, and I was thinking perhaps a 54cm fin?

any feedback would be appreciated

Hi Mezza
I havn't got a iS133 but several UKWA sailors are using 54's as super light wind fins. They seem to work really well and will definetly help un-stick the iS133. Select Vipers (on offer at Riks) work well as a budget priced fin. The iS133 does have an unusually short rocker flat, so you really do need to stuff the nose down-wind to get it going. I noticed your iS133 is on ebay, are you thinking off switching to Formula?

What's your weight ?

Rémi (85-90 kg) is using a Deboichet SL2 52 cm fin with iSonic 133 and Code Red 10.0 sail for slalom racing in very light wind. A SL2 48 cm fin is used most of the remaining time :

I've tested iSonic 133 with a 10.6 sail and a 54 cm fin in very light wind (7-9 knots with my 65 kg). The stock 48 cm fin is too small in such low wind for me but is absolutely fine once well to over-powered (9-12 knots for me) with such a big sail.

Hi Mark,

Yes, it is on Ebay and I am thinking of switching (back) to formula. I love light wind sailing in the summer months and do not feel the Is133 is delivering it for someone of my weight (95kgs) - of course part of that is technique, but part of it is also the fact that the Is likes to be powered up.

So, it may be Formula for me (I don't see the point of the bigger Isonics) or a switch to the Fanatic Falcon which I know planes earlier than the Isonic (but looses a bit at the top end).
