Hello all,
A friend ask me about the right choice for his Futura. His data: - 78 kgs - Lakes and sea - 9/10 - 16 knots - up to 8.8m freerace (2006 Gunsails Tempo) sail Which would be the best futura size for him? Which aditional fin (size/model) will need to improve lightwind performance? He want to maximize lightwind performance, but he see Fut133 too wide (bouncing with chop) with 16 knots. He initially plan to buy Fut122 and look for a aditional big race fin (size?) for lightwind. Please, any comments/help for my friend? Regards, Paco |

Hola Paco,
Yes, the 122 will be a good choice for him. Realistically the lower end planing might be a bit marginal at or below 10 knots (neither is FW board) but the 133 won't make a massive extra difference to bottom end either. So if he is sensitive about the "bouncing" in high/er winds, then really he sounds like a guy who prefer the "smaller" size board (for a given wind/conditions) range - so for that, the 122 will be good. For the lightwind option, he can boost up the fin to race style 44-46cm max, and be ready to switch back towards the 40 freeride fairly early for a more lively and responsive ride as the board comes more into it's (sweet) range. Cheers ~ Ian |
