Default futura 101 for isonic 101?

quiver: F155- isonic 125 - futura 101 - old tiga waveboard

Love my futura 101, but thinking of going 'full slalom', especially because of better upwind performance of the isonic and gliding through windholes with I need on my spot.

Would changing my futura 101 for an isonic 101 make a negative difference in my quiver in terms of

- planing abilities; isonic 101 vs futura? does the isonic 101 plane as early of later?
- sailsize? Do use the RS4 6.2 as a smallest for futura 101, RS4 7.2 and RS4 7.8 as biggest. Will the 6.2 work fine on the isonic 101?
- for RS Slalom 8.4 the isonic 125 is perfect (can also use the RS4 7.8 on the 125). Is the isonic 101 to close to the 125?

tnx

As an owner of is101 07 model I can tell you that it works very well with 6.2 race sails.
But, I find 7.6 to big for it (I am 83kg). I am much faster with 6.7 sail as soon as I am decently powered. 7.8 will be much better on your is125.
I think that 125-101 is great spacing. 101 is very controllable in extreme conditions and I think you will use your old wave board less and less.

I think that water state is more important factor then wind strenght. So in flat water, is101 with 6.2 should be no problem at all. In very choppy water, it could be demanding at first, but when you find the groove it should be easy. A good controlable fin helps a LOT!
I find deboichet sl2 36cm easier to ride then original drake 34. You should think about fin upgrade if you are going to ride in very overpowered conditions.

I use is101 down to 5.5 with no problem.

I do not know anything about futura101

I've had both F101 ad iS101. The F101 is a fast and effective board and super easy to get planing, but if you have the technique (getting pressure on the fin very early) the iS gets going earlier and also accelerates faster. In high wind, at last if its choppy, the F101 is fur sure MUCH easier to control. At least for me that does not have big slalom balls. The F101 handles chop in a kind of soft and stable way regardless of how you sail it. On the iS101 you have to keep power on and really drive the board or it will start to bounce and become unstable. As long as you do this, the iS101 is also very nice in chop though. But for me, at 70kg, fully lit 5.5 is just more than I can (or dare to) comfortably handle on the iS101.

So the short answer: It depends - it's a technique issue at both ends.

If you're heavier than me (or better at holding on...) I think you will have no problems with the iS101. If you're light like me, I would think about having something like the iS86 as the smallest slalom board and save the 7.8 for the iS125.

Hi. What is the best position for the foot straps on Futura 101 right at the back or in the middle?

prefer in the middle, board feels most balanced then.

@Ola H: i'm 85 kgs. I have been thinking about it, decided to stay on my F101 till next year, really love the control it gives and don't want to give away that factor. Last week I could even keep up with a friend surfing an F2 SX M - on my futura ! He was amazed too.
