Interesting topic for a windsurfing forum. For rough ice surfaces skis or snowboards can be used, but ski-jumper skis are longer and gives a better glide on snow. If itīs ice, skates are better.
Incidently, icesailing using skate sails are much older than windsurfing.

The "dragon sail" was designed in Sweden in 1905 and is still in use today. Sailing on ice, friction is about 5% (pretty much negligible) so itīs all aerodynamics. Hiding the sailor from the slipstream therefore makes sense and the "stand inside skate sail" is among the fastest skate sails available.
Love for sail!
