The 11m is a pretty normal formula size and thats 7.9kg. So the rig weighs more than the board. Whilst modern formulas I've tried are reasonably manoeuvreable, the double luff sails do give a real 'stop-point-squirt' feel like a dragster. So I agree they are too heavy for fun; sod the windrange I'll take a single surface....

But it works amazingly well.

Modern formula sails/boards plane up extremely early, have a huge wind range and can take you anywhere you want to go crusing at your local spot.

To me that's real formula FUN. For "manoeuvre" type of sailing I would definetly go for another type of board/sail combo

All the best

Agreed THS, it's just my brief experince of double luffs made me feel that for fun use the single surface was way less effort. I guess most of that was down to weight, perhaps some the 'locked down' aerodynamics. Off course no doubting their race effectiveess.

Default check the gtx

the new gtx from gaastra might be a great combo of the two. a new wider luff than before, but not the extreme of the all out race sails........
