Hi, I know this subject has been discussed several times but nothing quite answers my dilemma.... I am around 67kgs, reasonably advanced, sail UK south coast mainly (decent size chop) and want one board and one sail for light winds up to maxed out before changing to wave kit. I prefer high wind slalom but have decided that I need some bigger kit to maximise my time on the water. I was either thinking Is94 + 7 or 7.5m GTX or the Is101 + 7 or 7.5m GTX. Does anyone have an opinion on these sizes / combos for a sailor of my weight? It seems to me that I need to sacrifice comfort at one end of the wind range but if anyone can confirm that either the 94 would be fine for my weight in light airs (perhaps with a bigger fin) or the 101 wouldn't feel bouncy in large chop and 20kts+, then it would be great to hear. Thanks in advance, Dom

Hi. By light wind I mean around 12 kts. I would be keen to hold the same combination of kit up to 22kts.
Thanks |

Hi Dominic,
For this light wind you need the iSonic 101 with your 7,5m˛. To use your board until 22 knots, that will be possible in flat water but I recommand you to have a second sail around 6,5/6,2 (that must be the same mast and boom) so you can use it event in more strong winds. All the best

Thanks very much. Can you tell me what what wind strength you think the 94 and a 7.5m might start working for me?
Last question! Thanks |

I sail a 7.0 RS Slalom & I94, am 90kg and guess it goes for me in about 15. If I was you I would get a 7.0/I94, much more fun in 18+knots than the I101, especially if the sea state is a little bumpy (the 101 has a big arse!). You would go in about 12 knots at a guess with this combo. For light winds 8-12, I would suggest a 7.8/8.4/I111.
Anyway 7.0 is right in the sweet spot for the I94, the middle sail size always works best! A good fin selection will improve your range even further. |
