Default GPS devices

Hi,

can anyone give me advice on GPS devices?

I'm basically between 2 different devices, the Polar RS800CX +G3 GPS pod and the Garmin Foretrex 201. I know Garmin has been used by windsurfers, but has anyone experiences with the Polar? What about the rumours that this Garmin device breaks quite easliy on windsurf crashes?

Thanks for the help.

You can find all you want to know about GPS units at the website. I have been using a Foretrex 201 for 3.5 years with 0 problems. I wear it on my upper arm in a Aquapac. The rechargeable battery last a very long time. Over the last 3.5 years, I have recorded every sailing session which now totals over 220 outings with the Garmin. I also have read that the Garmin has leaked for some people that haven't put them in a protective bag.

However, the Locosys GT 31 seems to be the best out there according to Speedsurfing.com. They can be purchased (the Aquapac too) in the US at -

I don't participate in Speedsurfing.com and likely won't invest in a new unit until my Garmin dies. If I do, I will see what Speedsurfing is recommending at the time.
