Default evo 70 2004 vs 2005 or 2006

The 2004 EVO has a square tail (the original EVO design). The 2005 and 2006 is the exact same round (pin) tail desing. Constructions have been updated slightly between each version. The fin was chaged to a much better on for 05 (a curtis design) and then into a much better one again for 06 (a Mark Nelson design, this fin is also standard on the 2007 EVOs). Staps were updated to the much more direct feeling and super easy adjusting Slickstraps for 2006.

Ride wise, the 04 and 05/06 is fairrly similar, but the 05/06 are a bit smoother in the cutback. The fin changes makes a bigger difference if you ask me.

what about the difference in performance with the new evo 70 xtv, what difference in the feel of the board gives the extra width, narrower tail and the extra vee?????

I don't think the real width is significanlty different. Tail width less on the 07 though and the bottom shape is slightly tweaked as are the flow of the rails.

Overall the XTV rides similar to the old version. If you're used to that one you can just step on the xtv with the same confidence and sail it just the same. The area where the xtv is significantly better is in a fast cutback. Here the old EVOs could be a handful sometimes. You had to set the turn up perfectly to get it right. With the new XTV you have a lot better margin of error and can approach such a tunr in a more confident way. In my opinion this makes the new 70 an even better all round wave riding board.
