Isonic 125

I have one of the first 125 isonics and am looking to upgrade to the later model how much diference ie speed,and control is there between the first and the lastest designs.

Hi Kennatt,

This a big gap, between this 2 boards you will found the board a lot more free and confortable. Planning, acceleration and speed are better but can't tell you by how much, never try this board against the 2010 one.

Anyway that will be a big improvment for you to change from iSonic 125 to iSonic 121.

Ok so I have now got the option of an 09 121 isonic a 2010 121 isonic or 09 wooden 122 futura,I've had an opinion from somone who has demoed all three board and is of the opinion that the futura is faster than the isonics,across a wider range of wind and sea states the guy is no intermeadiate he was a tester for boards mags and raced at national level so I value his opinion,Do any of the team concure with him.just had a scan through other posts and think the futura comes out infront of the isonics.

interesting results, but don´t think so . Perhaps the iSONICS were not tested with cambered sails or not ideal fins.
Out of my view the iSONICS have incredible control and with training you can get a lot of speed out of them. Out of my view it needs a lot of training to get fast on a modern Slalom board.

Concerning your question about the iSONICS. I sailed for many years now on the 125 in 2006, later on the 122 in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Out of my view the model got faster year by year and the exit of the jibe got improved. Differences in speed in between the 2008 and 2009 122 are hard to feel sometimes.
I also tested the 122 2009 against the 121 2010. Felt that the 121 starts off into planning super early and had better acceleration. Top speed felt close out of my view. Control of the new 2010 122 is great. Feels a bit rounder and thicker compared to the thin 2009 version.

One more impression was, that the wood version of the 121 2010 felt softer and more foregiving in the jibe compared to the Wood Carbon out of my view.

Definitely it would be interesting to test the speed of the certain models. Can remember, had around 58 km/h in a speed competition in Boracay in 2007 on the 125 and made on the 122 2009 here on the lake Neusiedler almost 61 km/h. Both times I used sailsizes around 7,5 to 8,8 m.

58,986 for me with the 125 DRAM + 8.5 + Tomcat 42 in 2007
