iSonic 101 and the right fin

Hi Kevin,

I just bought a 2010 iSonic 101 (WoodCarbon) and I have RS Racing Sails 6.2, 7.0 and 7.8.
I am a 80kg sailor and I have a question which size of fin I schould use.
Most of the time I surf on flat water, sometimes with more wind a bit choppy.
My intension is to buy Select fins. I can choose between several types:
Elite S10 XL-Slam or Elite S11 Slam or perhaps the Elite S09 Casper GPS-Speed.

Most of the time I will be using the 7.0 and 7.8 sail. It would be nice to have just one fin with which I can sail both sails (?).

I have good experience with the so9. The other select fins are less in performance. I dont know the caspard speed , but what i read isvthat they are fast. But maybe not the right combo with the 101. More fin for a speedboard. An other option is the tectonic talon. Very smooth fin. Choose it a bit bigger then the so 9

Why settle for 1 fin, you by a full on slalom board and then go for only 1 fin? Go for atleast 1 fin for every sail. But if you really would like to get the most out of your iSonic buy 4 fins. Then you can change fins depending on the conditions before you change your sail.

Although I do agree with Surfrider, you can go for a slalomfin around size 38cm for both the 7.0 and 7.8 - according to the sticker on the 101 2010.

I have used the 101 with the Tectonics Goldwing in 38 for 7.8 and 7.2, with more wind a 36 for 7.2 and 6.7. And 6.2 with 34 of 32. All Rs racings by the way.

Not everyone wants to invest a lot of $ in fins and hope to find a single fin that covers a wide range of sails.

I am one of those. While I have the iS 111, I did buy one fin (Tectonics Tomcat 42) that works really well with all three of my 8.4, 7.6 & 6.6 Maui Sails TR race sails. I have found that the 42 hasn't been too big in 20-22 knot winds with my 6.6. I am free sailing and not doing downwind slalom and weigh 77kg.

If you are doing downwind racing then go (2 cm) a smaller than what I suggest below.

Tomcat 38, Goldwing 38 or Goldwing 36. Each could each make a good "one fin" quiver. The smallest Tomcat available is the 38.

I have never used the Select fins so I dont know if I can recommend you one of them. I have always had success with the Deb SL4 42 with the 78 sail size range.
