Hi
I'm 165#. Just wondering if a 133 could really handle a 9.0 sail comfortably. I plan to sail this board mainly with a 7.0 sail, occasionally with a 6.0, but would like the option of going big (9.0 max) just to get out on the water. I know it's spec'ed for up to a 9.5, but my 103 liter board is spec'ed up to a 7.2 and a 7.0 is a bit big on it. thanks in advance |

I use my Futura 133 with a V8 8.5 2008, which is famous for its planing power. Handles really well with the F and its standard Deboichet 48 fin, I'm just flying in light wind conditions when others are stuck, so I don't see a 0.5 m extra cause any problems.
If I were to do it all over again, I wouldn't hesitate and immediately go for a 9 m ! |

I have FUTURA 133 and NS S-TYPE 9.5mē, my weight is 90kg and I have no problems with this combination. If you are not used on big sails it will take some time to adjust, but this is the case with any new gear. Drake 48cm fin is big enough in salt water, on lakes is better to use 50cm fin. I can get planning at 11 to12kn of wind and I can use this sail comfortably until wind is stronger then 20kn. But even with wind gusts over 20kn is no problem to keep control but then is usually better if you take smaller sail. New sails have much bigger wind range than old sails. It was harder to control my old 8mē sail at 20kn than new 9.5mē.
If wind is 15kn I can easily reach 25kn GPS speed with this combination, if there is more wind I go faster. If wind is over 18kn I can get more speed with 7.8 mē sail and smaller fin but only under ideal angle. With 9.5mē I can reach much better angles of sailing and if wind drops below 15kn I m still planning. This is important since there is no such thing as steady wind. Usually if average wind is 15kn, you have wind gusts around 25kn for 5 to 10 sec and wind lulls around 10kn for 15 to 30 sec.To get planning most of the time and not only for 10 sec every few minutes, I need a big sail, at least for my weight. |

Got a F133 and often use a RS:Slalom 8,4 on it - no problem at all!! Iīm also "big" - 1,95mtr and 95kg - but can uphaul it in moderate waves if needed.
I have only positive things to say about it. (okay, the standard footstraps sucks with my big feet, but other than that, itīs great). /Jan |

Yeah well, as to the standard footstraps, there are rubbish. They do retract once wet, I replaced them with dakine primo's to good effect.
The outward back footstrap position on the 2008 model is also very awkward to get into. Really a pain in the ***, especially when you're getting tired at the end of your session ![]() I think this issue has been addressed on this year's version, too bad for customers like me who bought the first Futura

I weigh 170# and use an 8.5 easily with my Futura 133 with no problems. Not much gain for me to go to a 9.0, but I don't see why this board wouldn't handle a 9.0.

Hi Denter.
No itīs not a sinker. But in waves my uphauling takes longer, simply because of the waves/balance issues. This causes the nose to sink, and thatīs my problem. Notthing a little (read: a lot) of training wonīt correct. /Jan |
