Default 10m+ sail for ultrasonic

Hello,

Can someone recommend a 10m+ sail for the ultrasonic? If I am not mistaken, most large sails over 10m are formula-oriented. Are sails designed for formula suitable for the ultrasonic? Are there any sail brands offering 10m+ sails designed for slalom (not formula)? (The Gun Sails GSR is specified as a slalom sail even in larger sizes - anyone has experience with this?)

Regards

Mauisails Titan GSX. They come in 10.0 & 11.0 but they do have 3 cams.

I second coach on free race cambered sails. I use US 147 with 10m MauiSails Titan GSX and with my 85 kg weight I don't need anything bigger, unless you are heavier or like doing formula-like upwind-downwind tacks. This board works well with sails down to 7.5m in my experience.

Default Titan

Thank you guys, this looks like a really nice option. I ve used my ultrasonic for 3 seasons now, the first 2 with a 2012 NP H2 8.2 and last season I added a severne overdrive 8.6 to my quiver, which is a fantastic fast sail, albeit not so much more powerful than the NP. The ultrasonic is a my favourite board and I love it. What I am looking for is a large sail for those very light wind days. The Titan looks like a great option and one of the few (perhaps the only?) 3-cambered sails at these sizes. The 10.0 looks a bit too close to a 9.5 and then the options are more (from Neilpryde, severne etc) and I won't have to upgrade my boom either (alu race 190-240). I think it will better to go all the way to a 11m Titan if I finally make the investment on a new boom (250-270) and mast (520+). I am 75kg BTW.

Cheers

Hello,

Good question! At this moment I'm thinking of two (three) options. The first one is to replace my current 10m2 sail with an 11m2 sail ((free)racetype not formula) or ad an 12+m2 (formula) to my sailquiver. (option three leave it as it is!).
Thanks to this topic I have added this MauSails Titan to my whish list and mailed the local MauiSails distributer about prices and availability, because my local shops are no dealer of MauiSails.

Regards,

Will definitely inquire with my local (Greece) mauisails dealer as well. I would like to get some feedback on the gun sails gsr's performance as well, which, although 4-cambered, is positioned as a freerace sail and (at least to me) looks a bit more aesthetically attractive than the titan. I wonder whether someone has experience with a ultrasonic+formula sail combo as well and could feed back to us his/her impressions.

Cheers

Hi,

I've used an UltraSonic with my Severne Reflex II 11.0 m2 sail and the stock Drake 58 cm fin which are just fine for my 65 kg light weight. However, the 58 cm fin is too small for a 105 kg pal (lots of spinout), so better use a 62 cm fin for a better low wind range (power and upwind angle).

Cheers and happy holidays !

From the reviews on the web, it seems the Reflex is one of the easiest race sails to handle, even when compared to 2-3 cambered freerace ones. I don't know how easy it is to rig though. One other thing to consider is that booms over 270cm are usually full carbon ones (therefore too expensive) and most race sails above 11.0 have a recommended outhaul >270cm. The Reflex 6 10.7 is luckily suitable for an alu race 250-270 boom (262 outhaul) and the mauisails GSX is also fine at 251cm. I don't know yet whether specifications for the Reflex 7 will be different this year.

Cheers

I (95kg's) have sailed my 2015 Ultrasonic just a couple of times and only 2 sessions with an 10m2. My first impression is that the board's stock 58cm is a very powerfull one and I had no spinouts. I'm still in the getting used to the board fase but until now I have the feeling that the board doesn't need (maybe like's?) big fin's.

About 11m2 sails maybe the Severne Formula Experience sails or Starboards Formula One (both 3cam) are also an option they are designed to be used with alu booms and no 100% carbon masts.

Good point about the formula experience option. Hard to find any reviews on the web though. I wonder how well they perform on a 75% mast. There is a 11.0LW version as well, I 'd be interested in users' opinions.

Cheers
