hi!
I am choosing a used race sail for blasting around and maybe some local races. My options are 1)Gaastra Vapor 5,5 (2008) with rdm mast. 2) Neilpryde RS Racing 5,8 (2007 I guess). My priorities are durability, ease of use. I expect good performance from both sails. I would like to hear your thoughts on both sails! thanks J |

Personally I am a Gaastra fan. But I think all new(ish) sails are pretty good. Most important is that you get the right one for the mast you have. Or if you are also buying a mast - but the same brand as your sail. In my experience Gaastra tend to need top-stiff masts and NP prefer flex-top masts.

Hi J
Both the Vapor and the 07 RsR are being used at my local beach. General opinion is that the RsR is more powerfull (good if your heavy) and the Vapor is less physical due to RDM mast and slightly less tension, the Vapor also feels a bit lighter in the hands. Seen a few mast breakages with the 07 RsR, X6 mast best for non-pro windsurfers. A snapped £600 X9 would make me cry

I have vapor 5.5 2008 and I can tell you that it is unbelieveable race sail!
So light in the hands, powerfull, great control, just a great sail! It has a huge trimming range also. I did not try pryde in small sizes but I know one guy who switched from pryde to gaastra and he finds gaastra better, easier to achive best performance and not so tiring as pryde. |

have tried a 5.0m rs racing once. compared to my 5.0m 2008 vapor it did feel a bit heavier, maybe a bit more racier locked in feel.
upwind the n. pryde felt better, for reaching/downwind i liked the vapor more. the cut of the neil pryde is lower at the foot. so maybe in larger swell/chop the vapor is the way to go. could not be more happy with the performance of my vapor. |
