Futura 111 or 122 for 82kg and 6/7m2 freeride sails

Which futura, 111 or 122 for 82kg advanced sailor with 6.0 and 7.0 Ezzy freeride 4 sail quiver. I like to plane in at least 15knots and more and still use board to 25knots.

I'm the same weight as you are and mostly use my Futura 93 from 15 knots with a MS Switch 6.4 if the wind is solid. I would definitely pick the F111 over the 122 if you're going to use it in 25 knots. Likely I would pick the F101 for the range you're specifying if it were my only board instead of the 111 or 122.

You must sail in some really flat water if you want to be on a 111 liter board at 25 knots weighing only 82 kg. Of your two choices, I would suggest the 111, but as Ray said the 101 would be a better choice. I weigh 80 kg and if I had to choose one Futura for 15-25 it would be the 93 liter version.

Okay, great advice from "coachg" and "Ray Timm". I'll say that I usually try sailing in at least 15mph to 20mph with gusts to 25mph, not steady and lulls down to 12/13mph. Mostly on shore or side on and choppy with upwind capability a must to get away from shore. Need some volume to get through lulls but not so much to maintain control in gusts and chop. Any thoughts appreciated.

In that setup I'd go for the 122. You can controll it in a 25 mph gust. Maximizing your planing capability in 15-20 mph with a 7.0 in onshore conditions favors the larger 122 over the 111.

I'm 56kgs and I can get my 93l Futura to plane in about 12-13 knts with a 5.6m.

The Futuras are pretty wide for their volumes, so if you do plan on sailing quite often in 25knts of wind, definitely opt for the smaller size. As CoachG said, a 93l would be the best in this wind, though a 101 might be the best overall. Definitely with 15knt or > a 101 would be big enough and it'll give you more topend performance than the 111 and 121 (which I can see becoming a handfull on superwindy days due to their width).

I agree with you Coachg. Our biggest issue here in Grand Bahama Island, Bahamas is a 15-20mph wind with lots of holes but with sloppy conditions, having to grit your way parallel to shore as you grind your way upwind and away from shore break to reach more steady wind and a little less chop. The 111 seems a better choice for me in solid wind but my main criteria would be getting through the lulls below 15mph and being able to crank upwind. My biggest sail will be 7.0 for 15-20 and from all the posts maybe a 6.0 for 18-22 on the 122l? How about fin size, one or 2 and what would you recommend for these parameters I've laid out? Thanks for all the help guys. Keep in mind I'm 55 years old and I attended the 1978? Windsurfing World Championships right here on G.B. at Lucaya beach and bought an original windsurfer used in the competition, my first foray into the sport.

To go with both a 6.0 & 7.0 a 36 or 38 cm freeride fin would work at your weight. I like the True Ames Teardrop for the conditions you are sailing in.
