Quad v Kode

Noticed quite a few pro riders still have a single fin in their quiver for more onshore conditions or big waves (e.g. voget in sylt).
Just wondering are your quad riders still jumping onto the smaller kodes for certain conditions; if so, which board do they tend to use?
I gather kodes are particularly good for smooth fast down the line in bigger waves (e.g. cabo verde last year).
I'm thinking a kode80 might slot in nicely next to quad71!?

I'd say that it depends on your style and preferences if getting a Kode 80 as a complement makes sense. I love the board as such myself, but still can't really find conditions when I prefer it over my multi fin boards. For example, in high wind onshore I go for the Q66 and in light wind onshore for a Q76, in both cases because they allow a bit tighter curves when wave riding. Same goes for big sideshore conditions.

But if you either like to go for fast drawn out turns in big waves or a jump oriented sailing in high wind cross on, then there is no smoother and easier board than the Kode 80. So fore sure it can still be an awesome board when these two thing are high on the list. And it for sure still hold its own as a wave board in most other conditions too, particularly if you like to sail with some drive and power.

Size wise, it is in practice rather close to the Q71. Of course, if floats a bit better and maybe carries a tad bigger sails, but in the end, if you just count the wind range there is quite a bit of overlap between the two. That does not necessarily make it a bad addition for you but it's worth knowing.
