I am very surprised that noone in this forum has posted anything about Phil McGain victory of the US national in a 5 year old formula board from Starboard.
What would be the reason I know he is not a team rider but still he chose Starboard 158 Formula board for his Win.

I don't know for sure, but as Phil is big in with Carbon Art boards, I'd guess that his CA Formula did not turn up or got lost/damaged or something. Maybe the F158 was the only board he could borrow??

Any way, its a "big up" for the f158, still competitive 5 session on, and the newer ones are defo faster

No that 158 is his only formula board. He loves that board as far I am concern.
I dont think he has a CA formula board at this point.

The 158, like the 159, 160 and LWR are all great boards for windy conditions, just like they had in San Francisco. I am sure if conditions got lighter, the newer board would be better with the wider tail.
