Kode 86 or Quad 81

Hi

I´m 80kg and i´m an average sailor.
I have a Futura 101 and a Futura 122 for blasting around in the sea using sails from 5.4 to 8.0.

Now i want a high wind board to do bump and jump and to start doing some small waves.
I´m going to use it with 4.2 ; 4.7 and 5.4 sails on the sea with lots of chopp and waves of 1m

What will be the best Kode 86 or Quad 81?

It appears the sailing will be predominantly b&j biased, right? Then I think the Kode is the best board. It's still not bad in waves. A Quad 81 (or EVO IQ 82) will be easier to learn frontside riding on though so if that's a serious consideration you might consider one of those.

This is going to be a difficult decision to make; meanwhile I can get a Quad 81 L Convertible 2010 for a good price.

Is this board with a single fin like a Kode?

The 2010 Quad convertible is a good option. As a single fin it s quite good as a B&J board and in fact a very good compromise between looseness and speed. And in quad mode you will get an extra turbo boost to the looseness for frontside wave riding. So for sure a good option.

It's not really as fast as a Kode 86 but I would say still fast enough.

Just two last questions that can help me decide and do the buy.

1 - Do i have to buy a bigger fin to have it as a single fin?

2 - Are there any issues with the fin boxes in the Quad 2010?

1. Yes. The Convertibles come only with the four quad fins so you have to buy the single fin.
2. The front MT boxes are super solid and easy to use. Replacement fins are still available and there are some aftermarket fins in the right sizes (fx from Tarifa fin company, Maui Ultra fins etc). The rear boxes are fcs compatible so you will always fins fins. Most surf center fins will work as back fins. There have been occasional issues with some stripped threads for the rear boxes, but the report have been very, very rare. I only heard of one, actually. After the first outings, you may need to re tighten the back fins a bit, but for me they stayed put perfectly after that initial break in.
