2010 Futura 133 vs. Fanatic Shark 135

I am 120kg, looking for a board for gusty 8-16m/s choppy sea. Priority no 1 is early planning, no 2 is handling chop.
These boards are available for almost immediate delivery and I have to chose soon before they disappear.

For your conditions I would choose the Shark over the Futura. Carve 141 would the best choice.

Thank you for your reply. Can you please explain? I had a 144 board before (F2 Hornet?), was too bumpy ride at above 12m/s.

Carve- not as wide softer rails.

I see what you mean about the width. It would have been nice to have more volume if it can handle the same chop, I can uphaul at 140. The importer doesn’t have 2010 Carve though; a 2011 is about $1000 more. Concerning softer rails, doesn’t it mean harder to get on the plane?

Remi, to start with I will use 5.0, 6.3 and 7.5. The 7.5 is a very adjustable Ezzy Zephyr.

Hi Ilan_s,

Pretty small for a 140 liters board, anyway at 120 kgs must be a different world.

If you want to plane fast the Futura 141 will be the best but 8.5 will be very good sail on it and will help you a lot to get a quick planning.

Thanks Remi. I am more or less covered for the “8.5” days. I am now looking to expend to the days I can’t sail at all. A 115-125 is probably better, but I am not quite ready. My bet is that 135 will be a suitable compromise that I hope I will be able to use also bellow 10m/s

Somewhat different boards.

although both are freeride, the Shark is more freeride while the Futura is more racing oriented. I think the Shark in lightweight construction will be the one planing earlier, but the Futura will definetely be faster.

Given your conditions and sails, I think the Shark might be the best option.
