Hi Remi,
I asked a few weeks ago about a light wind board (10-14 knots). I've narrowed my choice to either the Futura 141 or the Carve 171. What is your opinion on which of the two planes earlier? Any other thoughts on the tradeoffs between these two boards? Anybody else have views on either of them? Thanks, Jon |

Remi,
I have looked back over an earlier thread in which you responded to a question of mine on light-wind boards. In that thread you recommended either the F141 or the C151. I have some more specific questions about that recommendation: 1) On what factors should I base my decision in choosing between the Futura and the Carve? Am I right to think that the Futura may be slightly faster and earlier to plane while the Carve, as its name would suggest, carves better? 2) On the Carve page on your website Tiesda is quoted as saying: "The 151 and 171 are two superb freeride shapes that are amazingly fun and easy to ride, with lots of performance and excitement. Personally, I had more fun riding the Carve 171 than smaller boards in the 120 litre range, in 7.0 conditions. Planing jibes never came as easy, the boards just cruise through chop and their own momentum just lets the boards plane through.. I never thought my favourite board in the entire Starboard range would be so big; these new shapes are truly magical." If that is the case, and given that I am looking for an early planing board, shouldn’t I also go for the C171? Not to ask a personal question but is Tiesda significantly heavier than I am? 3) What would the difference for me be between the C151 and C171? Am I right in assuming that the C151 would be faster and carve easier but the C171 would plane easier and stay on a plane longer (due to its glide)? 4) My windsurf shop tells me it sometimes takes a while to get SB boards. I’m seeing the 2011 Carve available in online stores but not the 2011 Futura. Is it going to be difficult to get a 2011 Futura at this time? (I’m in Virginia, USA). Thanks, and sorry for all of the questions but this is a big investment for me. Jon |

Hi Jon,
The Carve is an easy planning board with less physical demand to get planning. The Futura need more physical demand to get planning but plane earlier. Now is depend of you skill, Futura is more a Free Race machine who is more iSonic style but more easy and the Carve Free Ride machine who have very easy jibe. Do you have a second board and wich one is it to have the all picture? All the best

I have a Bic Techno 133 and a custom board which is about 100L. So, what do you think about the C151 v. the C171?

Also I have a Mistral Explosion 144 that is old and heavy and which this new board is replacing. The new board is for 10-20k, the Bic will be for 15-25k, and the custom is for 20k plus.
Also when you say the Futura is more demanding does that mean you need to pump it onto a plane? |
