Starboard Safety Washers

Can someone at Starboard recommend a dealer in the continental US that has these in stock. I need to order some via the net. Also, I registered but my account has never been activated so that I can post in other forums. Thanks.

What exactly do you need?
The white 1/4 round rubber washer that the stainless steel fender washer goes inside that protect feet
from the sharp corners on the hexagon head fin screws?
Or the large white rubber sealing washers that go under the fin screw washers to prevent air leakage
down the fin screw holes?
Or something else?

OK, I did a bit more research and have found the part number, and they are available at the
North American Distirbutor.
The Part Number is: STGA08SW
How many do you need?
What Starboard Dealer is closest to where you live?
Perhaps we can see that they are available at your local
dealer.

Thanks Roger. Looking for the the protective ones, Mariner Sails in Dallas is helping me with these. So I should put a rubber washer under the safety washer? Or under the metal washer inside the safety washer? I imagine that air coming through the screw holes will create drag. That must be the purpose.

Hi Darbonne,
You may have Plillips Pan Head fin screws in your board (s).
These safety washers were originally developed back when Starboard
supplied hex head fin screws. The Hex head "points/corners" were sometimes
pretty sharp so they developed the safety washer for that reason.
Also some of the flat washers (they are punched out in a punch press and
then tumbled to dull the sharp edges) have fairly sharp edges.
Sometimes, if you do not use a high quality #3 Phillip Screwdriver, the Pillips
pan head screws can get some burrs on the top of the drive recess and those
can be sharp as well.
The normal "stack up" is:
1/ The fin screw
2/ The smaller washer that will fit inside the safety washer
3/ The safety washer
No need for anything under the safety washer if you have an EVA
deck in the fin screw area.
The reason you need to "seal" the fin screw holes is to prevent the
vacuum that develops on the upwind side of the fin from pulling air
down through the fin screws and along a poorly fitting Tuttle fin head.
If air is drawn down this negative pressure path, then your fin will "spin
out' rather dramatically.

OK thanks for clearing that up for me. I have a 2002 start board. It does have an EVA top and hex head screws. So the safety washers are needed. I will be using the stock 40cm fin that came with the board to learn on. I also have a 70cm drake racing fin I hope to use when I move up to bigger sails.
