Hi All,
I'm considering a new Carve131 in wood for my light wind (13-18 knot) sailing. I'll mostly be using a 7.5 Ezzy Lion twin cam on this board. What I am curious about is, how would this board compare to the new Futura 131? I have heard a few people suggest the performance is very close between the new Carve and Futura but would be keen to hear any advice from those who may know. The water state I normally sail in can get quite rough quickly, even in the lighter winds, and am wondering which board would feel "too big" first in rougher conditions. Would there be much of a difference with regards to racing and upwind performance as I occasionally enjoy the less serious racing events. Cheers in advance! |

If 7.5 is your biggest sail then I wouldn't go any bigger than a futura 121 as you will find the 131 gets bouncy with chop, You could easily use this sail on a Futura 111 too but obviously you would sacrifice a little early planning ability.

If you want to only go for power go for a fu121 if you want more control with some bay freewave fun go the c121. My c111 2013 works so well across chop and still has good speed against a Freerace board.

Thanks to both of you for the advice!
I've narrowed it down to either the Carve121 or Futura121. It's a tough choice as I like the idea of racing, upwind performance, etc. but also just like to relax a bit and enjoy the conditions from time to time, ie. a bit more freemove/freeride like I suppose. But my main purpose or wind range for this gear I am hoping with be 14-18 knots, cruising upwind, blasting down, racing mates, etc which I guess would be better on the Futura. Will the carves still drive upwind well compared to the Futura? |

On another note I need to change my username. The current one does not match my kit anymore. Does anyone know how to change it? |

I have tried both and you will not be dissapointed with either.
You would be surprised just how relaxed the Futura can feel. |

Thanks again!
PrydeMan - maybe GatorMan would be more appropriate now :-) One last question - any reason a 7.5m twin cambered sail wouldnt be suitable for the Carve121. I'm fairly decided on the Futura121 but curious to know anyway. |

Generally if you are just freeriding a no cam sail in that size works great with a freeride board like the carve.
A 7.5 twin would be ok with the carve but not ideal, more hassle to rig and heavier it would be. I once used a Tushingham T4 7.5 on the carve 121 and found it to have a lovely balance. |
