After 3 Red Lines (no complaints), I bought 3 x Grand Prix. Some clever soul changed the middle cam from a traditional roller type to an alien device with 8 small plastic balls.
These have all fallen out on the 3 sails. I have tried replacing them but they still fall out so I am reduced to robbing a (standard) roller cam from another sail to keep going. This is far from ideal as they are (obviously) the wrong shape but better than a poke in the eye with a blunt stick I suppose. Has anybody else had this problem ? Any clue as to the design rationale behind this change ? Thanks. |

wow sounds like a crappy setup !!! balls...hmmm sometimes i think the old gaastra cams were the best, just a plastic cup....seems some companies make poor substitutes running
endgames around other companies trademarked ideas... naish .wont be buying that sail soon. |

Stupid question but... woudn't this cam rotate even without balls? On my Grand Prix 2010, the middle cam does not really touch the mast (no rollers, no balls) but rather "floats" around it. Maybe you could try loosening the mid batten or adding spacers to the other cams. For safety you may also put protective tape around the mast.
The old Gaastra cams didn't have rollers or balls, nor the NS soft cams, nor many others... and worked well. Last edited by Farlo; 20th February 2013 at 10:18 AM. |
