harness line lengths

Hi whats the ideal lines lenghts.
I am now using short ones,from elbow to wrist (where i have my clock)
And i have my bom in the top cutout.
Should i benefit from longer ones ?

I say that the longer the lines you can use the better. I use 30" long harness lines. It is so much better once you get used to them it is incredible.

What is the benifit of super long 30" lines?

Is it the ability to hike your body way out to reduce the component of your mass acting down through the board?

it is the ability to get out and away from the sail. Gives more leverage. Also you can be in the harness alot more, even when you are not plaining.

Thanks, Kevin, that reaffirms my approach. My lines are kept at 30" or longer. I may have longer arms than you, though. Many recreational Wsers see this as "unorthodox" or "inefficient".

So, if your butt is bouncing on the water in high wind, does that mean your lines are too long?

Could be. Maybe your stance is a bit incorrect. Try straightening out yor legs and leveraging off the boom>

You state that you use 30 inch harness lines. Is this from boom to boom? What is the distance from boom to hook? Is this line adjustable in length? Do you move the line fore and aft when sailing?
