11 year old and Carve 133

Hi,

My daughter is using a Carve 133 (with the standard 46 cm Drake fin) and a 2.7sqm sail. She's doing fine except the fact that she's not able to tack and go upwind: what ever she does, the board is not willing to turn upwind. When she was using a rented JP Young 114 board, she was able to do it.

Can I adjust the board (mast position, fin, etc. etc.) in order to help her? Do you have suggestions???

try to put the mast position in the middel that helps alot whith a lot of things

Look and see if her footwork is correct. This makes a big difference, and tell her to look exactly to the point she wants to go to, that makes you turn to the place you want to go to, almost automatically. (for her this would mean, to look upwind when she wants to go upwind)

Bigger fin? Look upwind and shift mast forward and close sail

Hi Roberto,
I've run into this issue for many years with Starboard's mast slot placement and
tiny sails like your daughters 2.7 m2.
Put the mast foot absolutely as far back as it will go.
The tiny sails carry their power really far forward, right up by the mast, so to get any kind of upwind performance you need to move the mast foot as far back as possible.
Also, she needs to tip or "bank" the board by moving her weight slightly off center toward the upwind side.
This will "engage" the upwind rail and rockerline and help her to go upwind.
